Applications

AIRSHARING

AirSharing:    AirSharing is an application that can be used to transfer travel notes, maps and photos that you have accumulated in preparation for your trip.  In stead of collecting a mass of paper work to have to pack with you only to be thrown out after it’s use, your information can be easily stored on your i-touch/i-phone using Airsharing for you to carry around as you explore the places you are traveling to.  Once you have uploaded your files onto your I-Touch/I-Phone using the internet connection, you will not need it again to access all the files, maps, e-mail files that you have saved and transferred over to your i-Touch/i-Phone.

INSTRUCTIONS
You will need Wi-Fi connection to be able to transfer your documents from your PC to your I-Touch or I-Phone, but once it is transferred you do not need Internet/Wi-Fi connection to be able to view all the documents you stored in there.

How to Connect Your I-Touch Wirelessly to your PC (Windows Only):

 1. First Turn on your I-Touch and tap on the Airsharing icon.

2. Then tap on the Wi-Fi looking symbol at the bottom left had corner.

3. Connection Help Screen:  There are two Address (Bonjour) and IP Address.  It’s best to connect to the Bonjour Address by creating a New Network on your PC.  This will allow you to connect to the same network each time.

 4. On your PC, go to your start and click on Computer.

5. Right click on an empty space.

6. Select Add a Network.
7. Select “Choose a Custom Network location”

8. Enter your Bonjour address, hit Next.

9. You will be asked to name your new network, then it shows up in the “Network Location listing in your computer menu.

10. And now it is a matter of transferring (by dragging/copying) folders from your PC to your I-Touch.

CONVERT
CONVERT is a very simple unit conversion application to have while traveling and or in your daily life.  It allows me to convert things like Kilometers to Miles which helps me to understand distances in terms that I’m more familiar with.  No Internet/Wi-Fi connection is required.

FLASHLIGHT
Flashlight  is a practical application that can be used to provide light when needed.  I’ve used it to locate settings on my camera and also to illuminate a dark staircase.  No Internet connection required.

MOTION X – GPS NAVIGATION
Motion X Drive Navigation is a great application.  It is very user friendly (US Maps).  I recently downloaded this application after hearing glowing reviews by a friend.  The next day I had a flat on an LA freeway and the application pinpointed my position so I could relay my location to the Auto Club representative.  Within minutes the Tow Truck came to tow me to the nearest tire store.  Let’s just say that it really saved the day because I had no idea (as there were no signs) where I was.

This application is very user friendly.  It will pinpoint your current location and navigate you with voice turn by turn instructions.  The cost for the application is .99 cents and the live voice option is $19.99 per year (which is fairly cheap as compared to other applications).  What I love about this application is how easy it is to use.  You can locate nearby shops, gas, parking, restaurants, etc. And when you locate for example a restaurant, it has a link to their phone number and when you tap on it you will be connected (if using your iphone).

It has a very user friendly screen and lets you find various nearby places such as gas stations, restaurants, parking, airports, hospital or grocery stores.  Once the screen takes you there, it will display the distance to get there, address and their phone number, where you can tap and you will be connected to make the call.  There is even POI’s (aka Point of Interest) information and a connection to Wikipedia.

KAYAK
Kayak for iPhone:  This is a fabulous application.  It puts the popular travel search engine at your fingertips 24/7.  I find this so useful especially when searching for the very fluctuating and unstable airfares.  Internet/Wi-Fi connection is required for this application.

SOUTHWEST AIRLINES
Southwest AirlinesThis is a great application.  It allows you to check-in 24 hours from your flight time so you can get a Boarding pass.  This is important because Southwest airlines doesn’t have assigned seating so to secure an early boarding pass you need to check-in as soon as it is 24 hours from flight time.  Internet/Wi-Fi connection is required for this application.  Here’s what their website says about their application:
  • Check in- You can now check in for upcoming flights from your Rapid Rewards account.
  • Change Reservations – You can now change an existing reservation through the app
  • EarlyBird Check-In™ – Now from your iPhone, you can purchase Early Bird Check-in for your upcoming flight
  • Cut & Paste – You can now cut and paste information entered into the app.

iTranslation

Translation: This is a free iphone application that can provide on the fly translation assistance. You need Internet/Wi-Fi connection to utilize this program.  What I will do on my next trip is I will create key phrases and print a screen shot of the translation and then save it to my folder which I can refer to while out sightseeing.  This will come in handy especially at restaurants. Since I don’t eat pork/beef, I can print the translations and keep it handy for when I’m reading a menu.  There are many ways that you can use this application both while traveling and at home.

TIP
TIP   is a great application to also have in everyday life and whie traveling.  It can calculate the tip to leave and can also automatically split it when you are dining in a big party.  Internet/Wi-Fi connection is not required to utilize this application.

CHECKBOOK

While traveling I take at least 4 ATM Debit Cards with me.  I use two of them as my primary withdrawal cards and the other two are just for emergencies in case one doesn’t work.  Since I use my ATM debit cards as my money source I try to keep track of how much I withdraw by saving my receipts.

But I discovered a great application (iTouch/iPhone) called Checkbook that is a simple application to keep track of all of your ATM Debit Accounts.  I use in it my everyday life since I use my cards for practically everything….Grocery Stores, gas, purchases, etc.  With all these transactions I needed something to help me keep track of things in case I forget or lose my ATM Debit receipts.  This application is perfect. Very simple to use, it handles multiple accounts and has a security passcode option for extra security.

Using it in my daily life has proven to be so successful that I thought I would add it to my iTouch so I can set up all my Travel Accounts so I can keep track of my withdrawals while traveling on the fly.
