Day 8 – Verano, Italy
- We continue on from Lugano and cross border into Italy
- We stop at a typical Auto Grill
- Verano, Italy to see the famous Balcony of Romeo & Juliet
We stop for about two hours in Verano. This is the first time that I have visited the towns of both Lugano and Verano so today has been quite exciting for me. We take a quick walking tour through the town first stopping by the Old Stadium.
We are lead to a small alley. As we walk through it we notice hundreds of love notes that are stuck along the walls. They are written by people from all over the world to their loved ones. How romantic! Most are written on scraps of paper and stuck to the walls with chewing gum.
A couple of our Tour mates climb up and out onto the Balcony to recreate the romantic scene. Problem is . . . their Romeo’s were back home in Australia. Well, it was quite fun watching them ham it up and have fun!
Verano is where we get to try Gelato for the first time in Italy! I had strawberry . . . . yum!
