- Climb up IL Mangie Tower
- Visit Duomo
- Visit St. Catherine’s Church
- Attend a Benefit Classical Concert
Today, we wake up late, just barely making it to the breakfast room before closing. While enjoying a very nice continental breakfast (included with the hotel), we plan our day’s itinerary.
First, we decide to climb IL Mangie Tower in the morning before the hoards of day trippers arrive. IL Mangie is only a 5 minute walk away from our hotel. It was so nice not to have to catch a train or a bus to anywhere. Everything in this small town seems to be within walking distance (unless of course you want to travel to the countryside). The view from the top was awesome. We could see groups of people spread out over the piazza. We stay up a while to admire the views of the rolling hills outside of the city walls
After the tower, we walk over to the Duomo to admire the architecture. It was very beautiful. Next, a Gelato Break! While strolling along IL Campo, we meet this very nice couple from Vermont. They are doing a biking tour through Tuscany. The wife tells us that back home they don’t even ride bikes. But their children are all grown up and they just decided that they wanted to do something really different. They thought to themselves, what could be more different than riding a mountain bike through the hills of Tuscany. My first thought: “I like them!” They are fearless and ready to take on something different, new and adventurous.
We then walk over to Piazza Gramsci to purchase our bus tickets to San G. tomorrow. We take note that the early bus leaves at 8:00 a.m.
After having dinner at the restaurant next to our hotel, we freshen up and head to St. Peter’s Church to listen to “Concerto Classico a Siena.” We arrive in the church a little early. The pianist was already playing so we sat and enjoyed his rehearsal selections.
We arrive in the church a little early. The pianist was already playing so we sat and enjoyed his rehearsal selections. The concert begins and we are treated to some very nice music. I saved the program for my scrapbook. After the concert, I buy one of their Cd’s which made the singer really happy. I think to myself, “he must not sell very many.” I even ask for his autograph. Well, today was a another good day
