Walk this Way
We leave Venice and head towards Florence. First we stop at the City of Pisa to see the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa and the square of Miracles. We have 2 hours here but instead of having lunch we decide to take pictures of the Tower from the ground and climb to the top.
Climbing the Tower was very exciting since it was closed when I was here in 1993.
When you climb up the narrow circular stairs you can feel the lean. It was strange. My first thought: How did they manage to construct this magnificent centerpiece of Pisa. Since it was a warm day it was actually sort of difficult to get up there. It seems that the only other people who decided to make the climb were Ben and Colleen from South Africa. We bumped into them earlier. Somehow I knew that Ben would make the trip for the photography opportunities at the top.
When you finally get to the top there is a splendid view of the grounds around the tower.
Our time in Pisa is up and we board our bus and head towards Florence. We arrived around 7:30 p.m. We are given our room assignments and told to meet for dinner in the restaurant next door. We are served salad, pasta and for the main dish, Veal (which I was unable to eat since I don’t eat beef or pork). After dinner, a group of us decide to explore Florence at night. It was an absolutely beautiful night. Crisp and clear.
We find the “fake David” and Ponte Vecchio and take a few pictures.
But we will see these things tomorrow during our City Tour. We keep walking and find a piazza where one of the restaurants had live musicians playing some “Oldies but Goodies” disco songs (of all things). This is an example of why I believe that music crosses all boundaries!
In the nearby Piazza, there are young people hanging out and watching street musicians performing.
We enjoy watching the people dancing to the classics. It was fun just standing, talking, listening to music and watching people enjoy a good night out in Florence, Italy!
This was definitely a night to remember in my journal.
