Day 8 – Lugano, Switzerland
- We stop in Lugano, Switzerland on the way to Venice, Italy
- Our last chance to use our left over Swiss francs
Am I in Italy
Before we cross the border we make a 45 minute stop in Lugano, Switzerland. Although this small city is technically in Switzerland, it is primarily an Italian community. The people speak Italian and the street names are all in Italian.
Instead of having lunch, a group of us decide to climb these stairs that go up along a funicular track. We are determined to take some pictures of the lake from higher ground.
While taking pictures at the top of this fenicular track, we are met by an older Italian gentlemen. He stops to tell us that we are taking pictures in the wrong place. My friend, who speaks a little Italian, was able to communicate with him.
He tells us to follow the road towards the church that is at the top of the hill. A good 10 minute walk. There he explains, is a wonderful view of the lake and town. We thank him and he wishes us well and continues on with his stroll.
When we arrive at the location and looked over towards the lake, we realized that he was absolutely right on! It was so beautiful.
After taking pictures of the views we only had 5 minutes to return to our tour bus. We ran back as fast as we could. Antonio was a little late so we still had some time to catch our breath.
