Traveling allows me to see the world through my eyes

2005-My Grand European Adeventure

After 12 long years, I finally returned to Europe – May 3-27, 2005.  I wrote this site as a photo journal of my grand adventure.  It’s also a way to express my thoughts and feelings about my experiences while on this trip.

This report is not intended to be a trip report containing specific details on the meals that I ate, hotel/restaurant reviews or detailed historical facts.  There are many more experienced travelers out there who can provide that information for you.

I will, however, include some general information on the hotels that I stayed in, the cities that I visited and the interesting sights that I saw.

If you are looking for detailed information I will provide helpful links on my Resources pages for helpful websites that I found while planning for this trip. Maybe they will be of help to you in planning yours.

I do hope that you read on and enjoy hearing about my experiences.  I certainly enjoyed writing about them.

The first half of my trip was with a group tour.  We went from London – Paris – Lucerne – Venice – Florence – Rome.  We had a really fun group (37 in total).

After our group tour we left Rome and went on an independent stay in Italy.  I absolutely adore Italy – for their art, culture, food, history, architecture and people.  We stayed in Siena for four days and three days in a small old world fishing town called Vernazza.

A little more about the two towns we decided to spend our extra days in:  Siena, a small medieval town located in Tuscany.  It is famous for their annual Palio Horse Races and a grand piazza called IL Campo.  The second town is called Vernazza.  It is one of five fishing villages that is located in an area called Cinque Terre or the “Five Villages.”  They are famous for their wonderful hiking trails, the most popular of which is Via dell’ Amore.  Although Vernazza is a small town, it is packed with day trippers who were inspired to come here by the ever popular Rick Steves.  By night fall the crowds usually thin out and the town quiets down.
