When I think of all the three countries I'll be visiting on my November trip, I think my food adventures in Berlin could be my most adventurous. Shannon posted a really interesting thread on Slow Talk about this cool event called the "Currywurst Field" taking place in Berlin. I won't get to attend since I arrive in Berlin after the event ends, but I find the information and the discussion on the Board very interesting.
Now, here's the thing, I actually do like curry and I also like Ketchup and the combination of the two oddly enough sounds unique and yet interestingly flavorful to me and I would totally want to try this unique German delicacy. I think it would be especially cool to go to a currywurst stand and eat amongst the locals like I have been seeing in so many YouTube videos. That seems like a fun experience to enjoy while in Berlin.
The one draw back is that I don't eat pork or beef. I'm not a 100% vegetarian or a vegan because I pretty much eat everything else. Well, okay I don't eat lamb, goat, or any other former living thing other than poultry and seafood. Actually, there are times when I want to stop eating poultry all together. When I do eat something that would normally call for pork or beef, I can substitute it with a turkey version.
Now, I am kind of doubtful that I will find a turkey substitution at a currywurst stand while in Berlin so I decided to do a bit of research for some vegetarian or vegan options for my dining pleasure.
I stumbled onto some interesting websites such as the Happy Cow and Yellow Sunshine. Don't you just love their names. Anyhoo, if I can find a vegetarian/vegan option for a Berlin Currywurst or Wurst Croissant you can be sure that I will try it. And if not, well I can always take a photo of these German delicacies and then imagine what it tastes like . . .
And for another viewing pleasure, I give you the Anthony Bourdain show (Part I) of his visit to Berlin. He's not a vegetarian or vegan by any stretch but I still love his show and what he has to say about the places, the people and the food in Berlin . . .
I honestly can't wait for my food adventures in Berlin . . . Whoo hoo!
